EMILY DICKINSON & THE ART OF TURNING NEWER

More than a century after her death, Emily Dickinson’s poems continue to astonish and pierce the heart. Her faith in the imagination to light “the possible’s slow fuse” and her steadfast belief in the power of poetry and art to uplift the spirit lives on in her work. Explore her genius through poetry and dance—with Simone Coonrod and poet, Shelley Benaroya. This informal and entertaining workshop will engage participants in a series of dance interpretations, writing invitations and lively conversations inspired by Dickinson’s work. No previous dance or writing experience required. An expanded series of workshops is now available—offering participants space and time to explore their creative selves in greater depth. Offerings are flexible according to venue.
“The hour we spent with Simone and Shelley uplifted our minds and emotions, challenged us to see ourselves as poets and choreographers. They made us—the audience—feel like supreme professionals. The afternoon left me wanting more.” Elayne Risley, East Brunswick Arts Commission.

GINGER AND THE GREATS – AN INTERACTIVE FILM SERIES

Join Simone to view some of the Hollywood Great film dancers in a interplay between film and interaction with the audience.
We will discuss the film, learning background on the dances as well as moving some steps of these legendary dancers of these films.

“Who doesn’t want to get up and dance after watching a Fred & Ginger movie?  That’s just what we did at our library!  Simone presented us with a unique program that combined the showing of a classic film with a few dance steps inspired by what we had just seen.  All shyness disappeared as people of all ages (kids through seniors) danced “the Yam” together.  Great fun!” Catherine Adair Williams, Assistant Director, Verona Public Library
